3rd Time Up to the Plate-0 for 2 So Far

3rd post looking for help w/o any response. Have always had
good success getting answers here before, so am assuming
that the problem is either very unusual or that my
explanation is either too obtuse, or not thorough enough.
Would appreciate feedback. Also, my XP came w/ my computer
so have "restore CD" limitations and had to totally
reformat system 2 mos ago due to virus probs so thought of
doing this again is 40+ gig worth of apps is something I
would like to avoid. (Almost has me thinking of Apple
because of nature of Win Registry and the associated
difficulties of backing up full programs and having them
work again after reformat) Have tried to condense post
AMAP, but difficult 2 do.

Problems: On boot-up, intermittently get the following (or
something to the effect of):

1) BSOD "Windows was shut down to save your
settings... Check for Bios updates, delete any Bios memory
functions, chk for driver updates, and make sure there is
enough HD space etc. Have done this.

2)Black Start-up screen w/ option to start Windows normally
(sometimes get repair by typing 'r'screen) w/ various error
messages about corrupt or missing files including:

a) C:\\windows\syst\config, b) syst32\drivers\pci.sys, c)
Couldn't load DLL's for kernel,
d)<windowsroot>\system32\ntosKrnl.exe

After a sluggish restart (sometimes twice-BSOD followed by
Black Screen of Purgatory (hehe) system runs great.

Computer has two HD's slaved together for 100 Gig total w/
XP OS's installed on both, 512 Mb RAM, and Intel P4 . Opera
and IE browsers.

Additional Notes: taking pot-shots in the dark trying to
locate prob by watching TskMngr. A few items show up that
*may* be indicating something. --4 seperate svchost one w/
21K mem usage. --msi(syst something?- went away after
start) showed 163,000 (honest!) page faults (whatever that
means). --
Something called PQV2iSvc.exe w/ 20+K mem usage.

SIR: Some new units are still coming out with the old MS-
DOS prompt. Check with MS and see if you can go NTSF
