33.8? GB limitation

I have a 40 GB Seagate came installed with my HP PC. I bought a 120 GB
Western Digital harddrive and now I get a message 33.8? GB limitation. Is
there a reason why the 40 GB worked and now the Western Digital won't?

Thanks, Donna J.

Hi, I appreciate your reply. I have formatted the hard drive, (numerous)
times. I have formatted it with the CD that came with the Western Digital
and it wants to do a Dynamic Drive Overlay (DDO). I read about this and
doesn't sound like what I want to do at all. Then I tried to format it with
the Windows XP and then it has less than 32 GBs left. Originally I used the
Western Digital CD and then when it came to installing XP, then Win XP
needed to reformat again. I have gone in circles with this for well over a
week now.
I have tried to find Bios upgrades, been told I need and enhanced Bios card,
PCI Host Adapter or an Ultra ATA controller. According to the Device Manager
I have under IDE/ATAPI controllers, an Intel 820801AA Ultra ATA Controller.

It just gets so confusing and it's so hard to find the info I need in
laymens terms. I'm not an illiterate person but this can make me feel like
one for sure.

Thanks again, Donna J.

Richard,
Is that an April Fool's suggestion? Support at HP?? My PC is out of
warranty. It will be 2 years old in July. I have tried HP and there isn't
any suppost to be found for this situation. All the parts inside the PC is
made by other companies. The motherboard is a Trigem Lomita. Lots of drivers
with the Intel name. Haven't had much trouble finding some of the upgrades
for them. Trigem tells me to go to HP, then HP tells me to go back to
Trigem. One big circle.
Thanks for your suggestion,
Donna J.

Yves,
Hi, yes it says it's a BIOS 33.8 GB limitation. Just curious why the
Seagate that is 40 GBs had no problems with BIOS.
Thanks, Donna J.

I honestly thought about taking it back. It's been a real headache.Right
now I have the jumper set on Cable select, since I have 2 harddrives. Is
that the wrong setting? Wonder if there's a time limit for returns?

Thanks,
Donna J.

I guess you have a quick access to that disk? :) Tell me the model and how
many pins are there, i.e. 6, 9, or 10 (I need 10 :).
You can find a warranty and retailer's policy in your receipt or invoice. It
should be from 10 to 30 days for exchange.
How long do you install it, for a week?

I bought it on March 16, but didn't get it registered that day. Will have
to check and see when I registered it.
I copied and pasted this information from the website. In case it doesn't
come through, the URL is:

Hi, I had downloaded the WD data lifeguard tools. I will see if I can
figure anything else out on it.
Here is the information from the BIOS WIZARD program that I got just now, K?
If it's the right BIOS, the one you found would be a newer one. The date
here is 01/22/02.
I will check out the download. Have you ownloaded from them before, think
it's safe? Just cautious.
Thanks,

Donna,
You need more info about the motherboard. You mentioned HP - was the Trigem
motherboard originally installed in it?

Jetro,
Hi, sorry had to get offline and take care of my dog. She's diabetic and
it was time for her to eat and get her injection.
Yes, that is the original motherboard. Let me see. Give me a couple minutes
and will send the info that I have.
Thanks so much,
Donna J.

Donna,
You're amazing and far from a layman or lamer...
Does HP box have any label such as Pavilion XXX?

Well thank you Jetro, I will take that as a compliment. :)

Donna,
Okay. download the BIOS from the link 2 posts up. Extract zip onto DOS/W9x
diskette and rename autoexec.bat. If you run phlash.exe without any switch,
you should get an interactive flash session. Read the messages carefully.
You'll figure, I know :)
