Got new computer with 160G hard drive and was 150C on C: and 10G on D:
but had problems with winXP and also installed Norton Systemworks was
not working..said the evaluation was over. Took it back for repair and
now I only have C: drive which shows 149C and D: is dvd'cd burner.
1. Anyone know where the other 10G disappeared to? Is it hidden
somewhere?
2. Also Norton is all deleted but still shows entried in registry...can
I just manually delete those??
3. In C:Windows\PCHealth\HelpCtr\DataColl there are many files called
CollectedData_27.xml and so on. What are those files???? Can they be
deleted?
Thx

Have a look in computer management, disc management and see if the 10gb
shows up. Repost with what you find and someone will tell you how to
proceed.

Was norton uninstalled properly. If it was and you have no other
norton/symantec programs you can delete norton registry entries. Just make
sure you have a working backup in case you break something. If norton shows
up in add remove programs then you probablly be better of reinstalling it
then uninstalling, do the same if someone just deleted norton file/folders.

In disc management is only shows (C:) Partition Basic NTFS
Healthy(System) Cap. 149.04G Free space 106.25G, 71% free, Fault Tol.
No, Overhead 0%
Below that is says Disk ) Basic 149.04GB Online and has box with C:
149.04 GB (NTFS)
Also shows CD-Rom 0 DVD (D:) No Media

Norton not in Add/Remove and was unistalled property with the Symantec
downloaded tools. The entries are in the HKEY Current Users..Software
part of registry. I will back up reg. and manually delete them. No ref
in program files for Symantec or Norton.
Thx.

[[System History

computer. Rather than a separate history view for each category as was shown
in Windows 98, Windows XP enables you to view all changes to the computer
since a certain date, and time.

were provided in the Standard view: Hardware Resources, Components and
Software Environment. History Information is provided by WMI, and is stored

If you were to open any of the CollectedData_##.xml files (they open in
Internet Explorer, you'd see items that you'd see in System Information.
Can they be deleted?

Yes.
I have a batch file that deletes the contents of
%windir%\PCHealth\HelpCtr\DataColl They just get recreated, WMI, Windows
Management Instrumation recreates new .xml files.

Thx so much Wes! That helped and I've learned a little more now. Still
can't find an answer to #1 question of where my other 10GB went.

I suspect this is the total space of your hard disk.
Manufacturers generally tend to calculate 1GB=1000MB, 1MB=1000KB,
1KB=1000 Byte, whereas the actual figure is 1024 in each case
ie
160031014912/1024/1024/1024=149.0404968 gigabyte
HTH

Thx...that answers my missing GBs then. I guess that I can't have an E
drive now unless I reformat, which I don't want to do.

Though I do not have first hand experience, I heard programs like
"Partition Magic" can help without reinstalling your OS.
And.. you are welcome

My whole hard drive is only 9.49 GB.

Think of a 2X4. A 2" X 4" is actually 1-1/2" X 3-1/2". 2" X 4" is the
nominal measurement.

This may help...
