3 machines on a Peer-to-Peer network..problem with access

Hi,

I have a machine that I just upgraded to XP Pro SP1 from 2000 pro. I am
connected to a router with 2 other computer that have fresh installs of XP.
We can see each other under the workgroup. However, The other two computers
can not have access to my shared files because it requires log on and
password. I Do not have any password set. I can see and access their shared
files/printers. Also, I have an administrator profile and a User profile on
this computer. I only use the use profile with admin rights. I cant get
the new XP welcome log on screen to work. Whenever I try to enable the
option it gives me the error "ginamsi.dll" (which is in the system32
folder). Right now, it just boots into the admin profile. Then I have to log
off and log in to my account using the old account switcher. I'd like to use
the new one if possible. I'd appreciate any help on these two issues.

1. Try adding the user of the Remote PC to the host of the files that you
are trying to access. If you add it exactly as how that user logs onto the
remote PC, assign them with enough rights to manipulate / change files, then
you won't get the dialog box (Username & Password). The host will then use
the Local Authentication to permit the access to the files.

If you have files on a "Server" PC then this will allow all Users listed in
the user account to access the Shared Volume/ Files.

You can add a new user, (Not through the New XP Add User Menu):

Start
Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Computer Management
Local Users & Groups
Users
Right Click - Add New User
- Enter the user name EXACTLY as they would enter
it on the Remote PC
- Assign User / Power User or Administrator Rights
(You choose the level of security).

Note you may need to assign different User accounts on each PC> Either use
the NetBios name or a user logon id.

As for you User Switching process. Have you tried deactivating the Welcom
Screen?

Start
Control Panel
Users
Change the way users log on & off
Unselect:
- Use Welcome Screen
- Unselect Fast User Switching

This should now allow you to log onto the user account that you have
specified.

HTH

Paul.
