2GB DDR400 and XP

Help Please!

2 systems - intel 865pearlk and giga-byte ga-8in1100
Motherboards - 800MHz FSB capable, 2.6GHz Intel P4 HT CPU
and 2.8 GHz intel P4 HT CPU at 800 MHz FSB, respectively
fail to install XP when 2GB DDR400 RAM (Kingston brand)
installed.

Get various "cannot copy file..." errors during install
then BSOD too fast to see error displayed before re-boot.

Take out 1GB all OK. Have swaped RAM around all OK. Put
in extra gig back in - same problems.

When running XP with 2BG - allgoes fine for a few minutes
then spontaneous BSOD and re-boots happend - again to
fast to see the error msg.

Can anyone help?

.1 are you absolutley certain the sticks of ram are
identical? Simply the same stats will no tnecessarly make
them compatable. The latency must also be the same.

both systems are 4 x 512 MB Kingston DDR 400 - purchased
at the same time and each system from a different location
also swapping the two that work with the other 2 taken
out still works.

Can it be anything else?

yep - in each system RAM is identical 4 x 512MB Kingston
DDR400 purchased at the one time from the one retailer.
(other system purcheased at a different retailer - but
all 4 sticks purchased at the same time again from that
retailer)

can it be anything else?

You can stop the BSOD and read what it says:
READ THE BSOD:

"To have time to read the details on the bluescreen you need to turn off
automatic reboot from Control Panel, System, Advanced tab, Startup and
Recovery button. Then when it happens write down the exact error message
which will usually provide at least a hint at the cause. Post back with the
error message details if you can't figure it out."

Also, I think you have to reconfigure something in Windows in order to go
over 1MB of RAM. Can't remember what...

Thanks - will try that - If you can remember what needs
to be changed in Windows to allow >1GB in the mean time,
I'd appreciate it.

Here is the old post (I think). You should do some research to see whether
this in fact pertains to your situation with 2 GB (I am not sure one way or
another):
I have 4GB of RAM installed in my system (4x1GB DDR
DIMM), and XP Professional only reports 3GB installed.
All indicators are that there is no problem with the RAM
itself - XP just is not 'seeing' it. How can I correct
this problem?

Use of 4GB needs a switch added to the line in the [Operating Systems]
section of boot.ini (unhide it and edit with Notepad). After the
/fastdetect add a space and /3GB

Sorry, it is getting too late - that post did not pertain to your situation
at all!
