2007 Opens all link files on open

I need to disable PowerPoint 2007 from opening up all the linked files in
the presentation.

All the links are set to manual, but it still opens every file.

Our Powerpoint has about 20 spreadsheet charts from various spreadsheets on
the network.

All are set to manual, when it opens, it asks if you want to update, you say
no, it starts opening them anyway.

Is it doing some type of verification even though it does not update them?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Ronnie

I've heard of this happening, but I can't seem to repro it here. (Maybe it's
got to do with network, because I don't really have a network here to test
on.)

How are you setting the links to manually update?

We set the links to update manually in the under manage links, set them all
to update manually. And the links do not update, but it goes through this
long drawn out process of opening all of these links just to verify them. I
wish there was some type of registry hack to disable the link verification
process @ startup.

Just an FYI, in PowerPoint 2007 pptx format, it opens up all embedded charts
and graphs even though you say not to update. Even though it does not
update the links, it still opens them up. I had to save the file as a ppt
(2003) formatted file and now it's working as it should.

Sucks

Thanks for posting your workaround, Ronnie. I agree it sucks that you'd have
to do that.

FYI, the seems you cannot disable the verification process with pptx files,
I fixed it by saving it in ppt.
