2007 locks computer on send/receive

I just upgraded to Office Pro 2007
Every time a send/receive takes place, my computer bogs down and have to
wait for send/receive to finish before continuing my other work.
I am using Windows XP 3 Meg memory and and Athlon 64 Dual Core Processor.
Outlook 2003 never caused this problem.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Are you using the profile you used with Outlook 2003? If so, make a new one
and see if it helps.

What type of accounts are in your profile?

I assume I am using the same profile. How do I make a new profile? Once I
create a new profile, do I delete the old one?

Not sure what you mean by "What type of accounts are in my profile" I just
have my email accounts, address book, tasks, notes etc. I don't do anything
exotic, just the basic stuff.

Thanks

Control panel, mail - make a new one using a new name - keep the old one for
the time being or until you see if the new one is better.

Is your email account POP3 or IMAP?

I just created a new profile and when outlook opens with it, evrything is
gone. All my emails, contacts, notes, etc.
Did I do something wrong?

When I go back to the old profile everything is there.

You should add your existing PST to your new profile. The Data Files button
in the Mail applet will let you do that. Control Panel>Mail>Show Profiles.
Select the new one, click Properties, then Data Files.

I've created a new profile, ran defrag, Ad-Aware, virus scan, registry
cleaner, and still goes painfully slow. I can't do anything during
send/receive.

I hope someone can help.
If I can't get this corrected 2007 will be history and I'll reinstall 2003.
