2003 to 2000 conversion issue ... slide transition timing

I created a slide show in PP 2003. I saved as .pps file. It works fine in
2003 and 2002. When I run it in 2000, some of the slides advance too soon and
some advance too late. All slide transitions are set to automatically advance
after a certain number of seconds.
All slides have narration on them (an embedded wav file); all wav files are
less than 60 seconds (if that matters).
As an example of what doesn't work right:
I have a slide that has three text boxes. The first appears when the slide
comes up.
Narration starts as soon as the slide is shown.
The second text box is automatically timed to "appear" after previous, with
timing 6 seconds.
The third text box is timed to appear 23 seconds later.
The slide transition is set to automatically advance after 46.6 seconds.
In 2003 this all works fine.
In 2000, the slide advances after only 43 seconds.
Note that some slides work just fine under 2000 ... but there are some that
don't.
I am not using any effects that are not supported in 2000.
Each slide is set to automatically advance after a certain amt of time; each
slide also has action buttons on it to allow the user to go backward and
forward in the slide show.
HELP!

Hi Alicia,

Sorry, but there are 'issues' with the timing between the versions. You
could include the new viewer to run the presentation (that would keep the
timings closer), but there is no cure for the PowerPoint timing blues....

Woke up this mornin'
Transitions were broke
Thought I'd done finished
but that was just a joke ...

(Be very happy I snipped the rest of the song)

Seriously, use the PowerPoint 2003 Viewer program to run the 2002/2003 slide
shows and you should be much better transitional timing.

But it is so weird ... I isolated the problem slide that was cutting out
after 43 seconds instead of the "automatic" timing of 46.6 seconds ... and
opened it in Powerpoint 2000. Then I removed all 3 animations on the slide.
Now it cuts out after less than 5 seconds!
What the heck is going on?

Everything does work properly if I use the PowerPoint 2003 viewer on the 2000
system. It may be the way I have to go, but there are two problems with it:
1. It runs in full-screen mode (I want my presentation to run in a window).
2. The user has to go through extra steps to download and install the viewer.
Sometimes ... life just ain't easy!!! ;-)
