After exiting outlook 2003, the outlook.exe process
continues to run. Upon trying to relaunch outlook,
nothing happens until after deleting outlook.exe process
in task manager. Any help out there?

Follow the lead and keep looking for others. Are you using any COM add-ins,
fax software, synching software, or any other programs that make use of
Outlook? You're the only one who will be able to tell what's doing it. We
can't tell from here.

Straight Outlook 2000 - no plugins.

The only thing changed in my environment is that I have upgraded my office
Outlook to 2003 (in cached exchange mode). I leave it connected when not at
work (as I used to with Outlook 2000) and am having this problem with my
Outlook 2000 at home (accessing the same mailbox). Ever time I close Outlook
2000 now, it hangs.

Does that help diagnose this further?
Thanks,
Andrew

Wow. You left a lot out from your original post. Connection type? Other
transports in the profile? Does the problem persist if you disconnect at
work?

Same well documented reasons that have existed for all other
versions

Well, I wasn't the original OP - I was just asking you for more information.

However... connection type is 'Connect with network'; only the Exchange and
Exchange Remote transports. OL2000 is configured for offline storage (no
personal folders), and synchronises successfully at shutdown before the hang
occurs. I haven't yet tried disconnecting at work as I am using OL2003 to
manage spam.

Thanks,
Andrew

I'd also ask your Exchange administrator and in an Exchange group. This
sounds like it is an Exchange issue and that's where they deal with problems
like this.

Ok - I posted to an Exchange group and then decided to see what happens if I
start Outlook in 'Work offline' mode.

Outlook still hangs on close! So I guess that passes the buck back to the
Outlook newsgroups!

Any more ideas, Russ?
Thanks,
Andrew

No, sorry. I've already posted all the causes I know. If Exchange is the
only transport in your profile, it remains very much on the hook.

Folks,

I had the problem of Outlook 2003 failing to terminate completely.
determined that I had to remove my PDA from its cradle, thereb
terminating its connection to ActiveSync. This evidently freed up th
connection between ActiveSync and Outlook, and the latter was able t
exit to completion.

Perhaps this will help someone who comes here searching for the answe
to this question.

/Joel
