2003 / 2007 Compatability

I have written a presentation in 2007, but saved it as a Powerpoint 97-2003
Presentation.

I am trying to present it, using a computer that is still using the 2003
version. I have downloaded the Compatability Pack, but still find that some
of the typefaces and effects I have used do not work. This throws out the
whole appearance of the slide show.

Is this the best I can hope for?

Thanks.

Sometimes I get some effects or animations error in PowerPoint file
which is compatibly saved in PowerPoint 2007. So I give up saving .doc
from PowerPoint 2007. That's the best way I can do.

BTW if I wanna email a file made in PowerPoint 2007 to others, for
assurance I'll transform the file to Flash which can retain original
effects and animations by Wondershare PPT2Flash. Maybe this is an
alternative way to solve compatibility problem.

I suggest some conversion tools for you:
Wondershare PPT2Flash: http://www.sameshow.com/powerpoint-to-flash.html
Articulate Presenter: http://www.articulate.com
FlashSpring 2.0: http://www.flashsspring.com

"do not work" covers a lot of ground.

The typefaces that 2007 uses by default aren't included in earlier versions of
PPT. You'd have to embed them when saving (if possible) or choose a different
typeface that most computers will have (Arial is boring but oh so safe).

As to the effects ... the new effects in 2007 (soft shadows, 3d etc) *should*
appear in earlier versions but they'll be converted to pictures; a user with
2003 won't be able to edit them as you can do in 2007.

Tell us more about what "do not work" means and we'll go from there. ;-)

Thanks. I tried these, but I don't think the free trial version will achieve
what I need to achieve, and I can't justify the expense of buying the full
version.

I've taken my presentation back to a machine running 2003 and re-worked it
using older typefaces and effects. Not exactly progresss, but it got the job
done!

Thanks again.

Really nothing that fancy ... I had used the Stencil typeface to 'stamp'
titles onto pictures. And had used a couple of transition effects that
failed when showed on 2003. I've re-visited the presentation on a machine
loaded with 2003 and re-selected fonts and transitions. Lesson learnt for
next time.

In the meantime I'm left wondering what the Compatability Pack does actually
achieve, if it doesn't deal with things as straight forward as this???

Thanks for your help.

Regarding fonts, there's not a lot it can do. If you choose to embed the fonts
when you save, it'll solve some font mismatch problems, but not all fonts are
legally embeddable. The C-pack isn't going to break the law or do anything to
encourage you to.

The C-pack enables 2003 to:

- Read files in the new XML file format that 2007 uses

- Convert them to 2003 format in order to open them (much as though you'd saved
them from 2007 in 2003 format in the first place). It tries to maintain the visual
aspects of the original as much as it can, but some of the functional aspects may
fall by the wayside.

It doesn't add any new features to 2003. If a 2007 feature isn't supported in
2003, using the c-pack won't make it become supported.

Really, if you know you'll need to use the presentation in earlier versions of PPT,
the best bet is to leave 2007 out of the mix altogether, assuming you have a
machine with 2003 installed.
