2000 Server config help

S

Steve Asher

I have a network with 3 computers on it.
I have my server which is running 2000 server
I also am running 2000 pro and XP pro.
I want to setup the server as a domain controller and also
use the modem in it for Internet connection sharing.
Should I use just ICS or NAT?
Also with NAT can I setup the server as a DNS and DHCP
server?

It's not recommended to use ICS on a server. Install DNS and DHCP and make
sure that DNS is pointing to the server-IP. In DNS-server, tab Forwarders,
you put the ISP-DNS-numbers.
Make sure the clients obtain an IP and DNS automatically from your server.

Server OS is shipped with RRAS service and that's what you should configure
instead of ICS which is actually the RRAS bastard.
