2 problems

Hi all,
2 frustrating occurences that have been going on for some time:
1- The error "Invalid Pointer Operation" comes up when the computer
boots. I know this is somehow related to the hotkey keyboard but I
can't fix it.
2- After computer sits idle for a few hours, unable to connect to the
internet or check email. Upon reboot, no problem. I have a DSL
connection with a Dynex router. Two computers on the network. One
running XP, the other the old family computer running Win98SE. ANy
suggestions there?

problem 1. replace the keyboard?
problem 2. Is this USB connection? try disable "turn off to save power"
in Device manager for the USB connections.
