1] Using Outlook 2007 with Vista 64. When I send emails, the status always
adds 4 messages to the number of messages I have in the Outbox. The
mysterious 4 never show up in my Sent Mail folder. What is this about? Is
something nefarious happing to my emails = or my computer?

2] Many of the emails I receive have the infamous red x in various places.
There is also a note that says I can get the actual pictures, or other
objects by clicking on the note. How can I make the default automatically
allow the pictures, objects, etc. to show?

1) There is a counting bug in Outlook. Do you perhaps have 3 accounts
configured in Outlook? It is just a counting bug; no additional messages are
being sent. You can verify if it is indeed not trying to submit stuck read
receipts via;
http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/deletereadreceipt.htm

2) Do the messages display when clicking on the notification? If so, you can
change your settings via;
Tools-> Trust Center...-> Automatic Download

If not, you might want to check the value listed here;
http://www.msoutlook.info/question/403

and also clear your Temporary Internet Folder and Outlook Temp folder as
instructed here;
http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/securetemp.htm
