2 NIC's on same internal network...

Hi!

If you have a server with 2 NIC's in the same internal network, you get the
error about duplicate name...
What are the options if you wanna keep 2 NIC's on the server to be available
for the Domain it's in?
And what are the potential problems having it setup like this?

Thanks!

It's a NAS box, with 2 built in NIC's that I guess someone setup like this
with the thought to be able to utilize more bandwidth.
So that's why they both would be in the same network...

Just taking out the NETBIOS and possibly DNS reg should let this config work
well though? I will try that.. !

Would there be a better way to set things up with 2 NIC's allowing for more
bandwidth to this NAS box to the one and same Domain?

Thank you!

You might get a BIT more network bandwidth with two NICs
if you can figure out a way to separate the traffic.

If such is important it is better to buy purpose-built "teaming NICs"
or a "special teaming NIC Driver" than binds the NICs into one
logical device.

Ace,

No, they are both in the internal network, in the same domain.
Yeah.. it's a DC and DNS (and GC) server as well.. heh.. !
Is there gonna be any advantage of having this second NIC or should I just
disable it?

Thanks!

I would disable it or use NIC teaming, as Herb suggested. It *may* cause
issues wtih a GC lookup. Not sure. You'll have to check with the NIC's
properties and software if that feature is available for it.
