1st DC Removal and MS Exchange 2000

Joshua Graham

I am having some problems with one of my servers and it was the 1st Windows
2000 DC in my new domain. I want to demote it and rebuild it from scratch. I
have 2 other DC that I can transfer the FSMO roles and GC duties to. I am
pretty sure that is what I need to do before I demote it and remove it from
the domain and I am writing this just to make sure before I cause any
problems. Also, I have MS Exchange 2000 on this DC and we do not use it
anymore so I want to remove it. I have be unsuccessful when I try to
un-install it and I wanted to remove it from this server and AD before I
rebuild this box, any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You should uninstall Exchange from Add/Remove Programs that makes the
Exchange Organization removed from AD successfully. Its good to move FSMO
roles before you demote the current holder, if you don't care about witch
existing server going to take over this roles, the roles are moved off the
current holder during DCPROMO automatically. Global Catalog have to been set
to at least one other existing Domain Controller , Yes
