Default where? There is nothing that says that Sun is the first day of week
per se except the Weekday function, which can be overcome by using

=WEEKDAY(date,2)

Hi Bob,

Yeah, that is the function I'm trying to use, but our week starts on a Monday.

Sorted!

Thank you,

Jay

Actually, Bob. It's the WEEKNUB functions that I'm trying to use to give me
the numercial week of the year - it's still one or two days out when it gets
to the end of the year.

Any thoughts?

Also, Bob (sorry) I'm using a column of date for the week numbers, so the
fomular is: =WEEKNUM(A1,2)

But, if there is no entry yet in Column A, it returns a value of 1.

Your thoughts please...

Thank you,

Jay

=IF(A1="","",WEEKNUM(A1,2))

Weeknum(Serialdate,2) will start the week on Monday in 2003 at least.

From Excel Help
The WEEKNUM function considers the week containing January 1 to be the first
week of the year. However, there is a European standard that defines the
first week as the one with the majority of days (four or more) falling in the
new year. This means that for years in which there are three days or less in
the first week of January, the WEEKNUM function returns week numbers that are
incorrect according to the European standard.
