192.168.1.1 wont work with linksys router

The address is http://192.168.1.1 won't let me in my router. I get nothing
but "page not found errors" when I try to access the router. When I reset
the modem, it will work and let me in. But when I use set the router up or
use the linksys router tool to do the automatic configuration, the
192.168.1.1 will produce nothing but page not found.

Any ideas?

If it is a new router installation, you should connect with an Ethernet
cable
first, and then try to access and configure your router with the
http://192.168.1.1
address. You should then be able to connect to the router
without the Ethernet cable connection.

That depends on how the router is set up...

Is set as bridge or router? If as router, is it set up as a DHCP server? If
so, what address range?

If it is set up as a bridge, the only way to get at it, is set your computer
into the same address range (192.168.1.x, x NOT 1)
with gateway as 192.168.1.1 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0

If it is set up as a router and DHCP server (doing NAT or NAPT), there is a
setting in it's setup telling what's its address, the addresses it gives out
and subnet mask. Usually it sets itself at address 192.168.1.1, subnet mask
255.255.255.0 and addresses given out 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.150 or
something like that....
