19 not downloaded

Windows Mail Version 6.0.6000.16386 under Vista Ultimate.

The news group microsoft.public.windows.vista.hardware_devices reports "19
not downloaded" most of the time. When this problem first started the count
was 14, then went up to 16 and has now been at 19 for several days. If I do
"Synchronize news group" or "Get next 1000 headers" no messages show up. If
I do a "Catch up" they go away. Until the next time the news group actually
has any messages in it, at which point, after reading or dismissing all the
messages, the "19 not downloaded" appears once again.

I'm having this problem ONLY with this one news group. I tried
unsubscribing and deleting the file from the mail store, but when I
re-subscribed it comes back again. I also tried resetting the account and,
after catching up again, the problem returns again.

Any ideas?

What you are seeing is a known 'Bug', it existed in Outlook Express and was
allowed to continue to WM, MS have done nothing about it.

The messages, are known as 'ghosts', they appear when the server count read
by WM, gets out of sync.

You can do nothing about it.

I would however advise that you remove the checkmark from 'get ####
headers', at tools>options>read tab.

The reply from the MVP says it's a bug in Windows Mail. As may be, it's
only annoying. I can learn to ignore it.

Thanks. I can learn to ignore it, I guess.

Why?

Because having that setting enabled can cause the same symptom, that you
see now, with it disabled, you get all available messages.

Thanks for the tip...
