1800+ only on 1150 Mhz on a Asus A7V266

Hi all,

Since i moved my Asus A7V266 mainboard to another housing the cpu (Athlon
1800+) cannot operate at a speed of 1533 Mhz.anymore. The system always goes
in the reboot just before Windows XP is completely started up.
For 2 years the system runs without any problems and on 1533Mhz.
The new case differs in only three ways from the one before. First the
powerunit was only 230Watt but i have tried it with the old 300 Watt one and
that doesn't help. Second i changed the CPU cooler with a better one. Third
the VGA card is changed from a simple Nvidia TNT to a Radeon 9600XT.
I have installed for a particular reason the new cpu cooler twice. Can it be
that i had put some new cooling paste on the processor when installing de
cooler for the second time?
Maybe someone have any idea how this is possible.
Thanks

Paul

230W is nowhere near enough for a XP1800+ and an Radeon 9600...use your 300W
psu, even this is marginal.
Are you sure the new cooler is better???? What temps are you seeing in the
bios?
Have you tried it with the old VGA card in?

Change the FSB from 100MHz to the proper 133 MHz.

Paul, My A7v266E ran perfectly for 3 years with a xp1800+ before doing
EXACTLY what you state. The 360W power supply was on the way out.
Replacing it with a 550W unit solved the problem completely for me.
