16 bit windows problem

I received this message trying to open a game that was always playing
with no changes to my system. 'The system file is not suitable for
running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications.' I have tried the
copying of the config.nt, autoexec and the other files etc.. from my
Win XP Prof. cd to the desired folder. But this has not worked. Does
anyone have anything further that I can do before having to reinstall?

c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS
and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose Close to terminate the application.

Replace the standard version of autoexec.nt/config.nt by copying a backup copy
located in %windir%\repair\ to %windir%\system32\
(NB: %windir% is typically C:\Windows)

Also can be caused by a Trojan installing a file windupdater.exe and
creating registry entries for that file.
