16-BIT Program

I am trying to install a 16-Bit Program (called Rational Rose, a UML
language), which is zipped onto a CD - it is 9.33 MB - after extracting it as
close to the Root Directory as I can get, and then trying to run the program
I get the following message:
"16 bit windows Subsytem:
c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and MS Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to teminate the
application."
Choosing 'Close' or 'Ignore' closes the application. I tried the MS
troubleshooter -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767 - and it
explained the necessary steps to resolve the problem, however this does not
work. I think this is because the program on the CD Drive is zipped.

Best I can offer is try to install in one of the compatibility modes,
Start\All Programs\Accessories\Program Compatibility Wizard and see if that
works. You must understand, there no longer is any true DOS environment in
XP and compatibility of such legacy apps is at best, spotty. As an
alternative, assuming the above doesn't resolve the issue, you might try
dual booting with another version of Windows in which you know the
application will install and function.

Once you've accomplished that, you would be well advised to find some
alternative to this application as this compatibility issue is only going to
get worse with new updates and future versions of the operating system.

Since, XP is already installed on your system, dual booting will require the
use some third party software that also includes its own boot manager such
as Partition Magic or System Commander.
