16 bit MS-DOS Subsytem

Brand-new computer (including a 64-bit processor). Nice, clean install of
WinXP. Got my modem up and running, but before I could get SP2 and my
security program installed, I got attacked. I've managed to clean nearly all
the attack-related stuff off my computer. SP2 has been successfully
installed. I had some problems with the installation of the security program,
so fixing that is my next step.

After I open my internet connection, I keep getting this message:

16 bit MS-DOS Subsytem
C:\Windows\System32\ffx3.exe

The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.

CS: Odad IP:O208 OP63 6f 6c 6f 72 Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Can anyone tell me what this is and/or how to fix it?

Karen,

Reinstall your system cleanly again - by your own statement you may not be
clean "... I've managed to clean nearly all the attack-related stuff off my
computer... ". Ensure you get SP2 and activate the firewall or install all
your other security software before you consider connecting to the Internet.

Well, that was my problem. I had to get online to download SP2 and to
re-download my security software. Sort of a catch-22.

When I get back home, I will be:

1. getting my security software installed correctly
2. updating all its definitions
3. running a full scan
4. updating my AdAware definitions
5. running a full AdAware scan

Karen if you turn on the XP firewall before going on line you can download
the patches that will prevent infection.
