15.5 GB=102 GB?

Hi,
My Vista Ultimate install is only 15.5 GB excluding the pagefiles, shadow copies and SR using Norton Ghost 12.0.
According to the computer properties it is 102 GB mainly because of shadow copies I think?
Is there a way to limit or not have these copies but still have all the restore points?
I tried to cut down my shadowstorage to 30 GB but lost all my restore points so had to put it to 80 GB's.
It was originally at ~120 GB's.

Have a good day,

Regardless of what you set it to you shouldn't loose ALL of your restore
points. 30GB should be fine. Maybe set it a little higer to 50GB? What
size if your HDD? I think default shadow copy size is 15%.

Do you have multiple drives Shadow Copy is monitoring?
Individual drives can be disabled.

If you wish to retain System Restore and Shadow copies, the latter especially for the purpose of prior file versions(one of Shadow Copy client key features) Ghost will image everything except the page file(s).

Personally, and this is just my opinion knowing full well the value of System Restore and using Shadow Copy, but...if Ghost 12(or another compatible Vista product Acronis 10) is in use, an acceptable level of protection and restoration(why else would one use Ghost on a system drive) could be achieved with regular scheduled or manually created drive or file and folder images(which can restore full or individual files from the created images) while permanently disabling System Restore and Shadow Copy and use the space for more useful or creative endeavors.

Other's may disagree...so do listen to all viewpoints<g>.

I did lose all my RP's at 30 GB's. I tried 40 than 50 and only had a few RP's so I went to 80 GB and now it is very
acceptable.
I have a RAID 0 configuration with a total of 1 TB HD

No I am using a RAID 0 2x 500 GB's All other drives are disabled.
I don't need 102 GB of shadow copies but have no choice I guess.

That sound like a good Idea but being a former beta tester I fool around and sometimes to often so I create RP's every
12 hours for safety.
But right now that isn't working either It seems to be a bug between SR & Scheduled Tasks on the default task.
I do create manual ones to make up for that.

Understood, Thanks for the feedback. I also do similar with betas for both
msft and non msft products . It can become or seem unmanageable at
times...though with a little bit of effort, multiple external drives and
supported use of dual layer dvd's helps keep the images under control
without relying on SR or more recently SC.

Glad to see you found an acceptable level at 80GB for your Raid 0 setup.
