15-20 second pause on IE launch

When launching IE6, the program does not immediately
go to the home page. The window will pause for about
20 seconds before beginning to load the page. There is
no progress status bar or the "opening page..." indication
at the bottom of the window. It only happens on launch
and only on W2K machines on a Server 2003 network. Other
clients (W98 & XP) instantly load the home page. The W2K
machines used to instantly load the home page without the
long pause, but have recently started with this pausing
behavior.

The only changes made to the network was replacing the PDC
that was running NT4.0 to a new PDC with Server 2003.
Although the W2K clients worked after migration. I believe
it all started after adding all the Windows Update
security patches to the OS and IE. Any ideas?

Parasites calling home while you wait?

This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware, parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
