100% CPU usage, system so slow unusable

When I turned on my system this morning, the Task Manager showed several
files using more than 90% of my CPU off and on at different times. The ones I
could write down were wgatray, SSautorunRN.exe, LUcallbackProxy, &
AppSvc32.exe. I've run a Norton and AdAware and Defender scan, but they bring
up nothing. Any ideas? Thanks.

A couple of those belong to Norton.
Google for them and you'll find out more.

A quick web search is all you need to find that wgatray is the Windows
Genuine Advantage product validation software and the other three are
all components of Norton Internet Security. You would expect each of
these to consume large amounts of CPU time as they load. In fact, any
substantial software will briefly use large amounts of CPU and memory as
they initially load.

Hello,

Try to increase the virtual memory of your PC to its maximum permissible size

This can be done by going to Control Panel >System >Advance > Performance>
Click at setting > Virtual Memory > Click at Change > Custom Size > Set >
Initial Size : 4090 MB , Maximum Size : 4095 (The system could tell you what
is your maximum size as you increase it) > Click OK and reboot your PC.

I tried this, it works for my PC, I do not know if it works for yours.

Please change back to your original settings if it does not work.

Thanks

Hello,

Try the following system performance maintenance steps also:

1. Disk clean up
Go to Start > All Program > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Clean Up >
Click OK after scanning

2 Check you hard drive for error and fixing it
Going to My Computer >Right Click Local Disk C > Properties > Tool > error
Checking > Check Now > Tick Auto fix file error and Recover Bad Sector >
click Start > Reboot your PC. This process would take 60 minutes or more
depending the size of your drive C.

3. Disk Defragmentation
Going to My Computer >Right Click Local Disk C > Properties > Tool >
Defragmentation > Defragment Now > Defragment This process would take 20
minutes or more depending the size of your drive C.

I hope these steps could help to improve the performance of your PC.

Best Regards

Low

Please use the Reply to and not the New Message option when responding
to a person seeking help. You might also note that responding to
messages which are over 3 months old is hardly likely to be helpful to
the person who was needing help.

Hope this helps.
