1 files opens into 2 files

Hi

I don't know why or how this happened.

I have a macro which opens 3 workbooks Book3, Book2 and Book1 and make
sheet1 in Book1.xls the active sheet. (Book1.xls opens last)
The 3 workbooks open OK then the macro stops on the code line to activate
sheet1 in Book1.xls.
Book1.xls has opened but has been renamed into 2 workbooks one renamed
BOOK1.xls:1 and the active workbook to Book1.xls:2.
Both workbooks are the one and the same; changed one both change; delete one
both are deleted, close one both are closed.
Where and how the :1 and :2 came about I've know idea.

In the window dropdown menu both workbooks are listed as i.e. Book1.xls:1
and Book1.xls:2.
If I rename Book1.xls:2 to Myfile.xls; close and save the file; then
reopen it, I have Myfile.xls:1 and Myfile.xls:2.

Strange but only the one copy appears in the folder I use to save my excel
files, it's filename is shown as Book1.xls
Also only one copy appears in the File dropdown menu also named Book1.xls.

If I delete Book1.xls:1 or Book2.xls:2 both files are deleted and I'm left
without a file called Book1.xls.

BTW no problems with Book3 and Book2 they both open, close and work fine.

Please what has happened and how do I fix it?

I have stepped through the opening macro and as soon as the Book1.xls opens
it's name appears at the top of screen as Book1.xls:2
No code has changed in the opening marco.

Problem solved.

I stepped through a second macro that opens and formats a .csv file which
finally “should†arrange both the Book1.xls and the .csv file horizontally on
screen. (I had to manually carry out one or two lines of code that referred
to Book1.xls)
My screen arrangement showed three files on screen Book1.xls:1, ??.csv and
Book1.xls:2.

I clicked on the top right “X†in the Book1.xls:2 file and all is now back
to normal.
Well as normal as Excel has ever been.

I still don’t know why, how or what happened, but I can fix it hopefully
should it happen again.

All joking aside can anyone throw some light on what did happen and why?
