1/2" 35mm slide labels impossible in XP

This is my conclusion after over a week of posts to create a user defined size of .5x3" for slide labels. I created such a size in the forms, and tried different printers and this size won't appear. Talked to Epson and created a 4" label as a test. This shows up as a choice in the different printers, but never the small label. First I lost the ability to print these labels when I upgraded an early version of MSworks to a later one, and printed them instead in ACCESS. Now this ability is lost for any program. How stupid.

What application are you attempting to print with? The wordprocessors with which I am familiar (Microsoft Word and Corel WordPerfect) come with the ability to print just about any label size you want, without you having to define a custom paper size. Or you can get special label printing software from the label manufacturers, Avery, for instance.

In Word 2000, for example, click on Tools | Envelopes and Lables. Select the "Labels" tab, and then click "Options". Looking under "Avery Standard" there is an entry for #5066 0.5 x 3.0 (although I note that the current Avery catalog says that label is actually 2/3 x 3 7/16: I guess Avery changed after Word 2000 was released).

The form definition must be within the printable area defined in the printer
GPD file from the printer manufacturer or you will not see it in the list of
paper sizes within the printer properties.

Mr. Morris:

Could you please supply an example to explain what this means, and how to
specifically resolve it? Are we to assume that the custom size we are trying
to define is not showing up on the list because of attempting to place it in
a non-printable area?

We have a Panasonic KX-P2123 and cannot print 1 inch x 3.5 inch tractor feed
labels using Windows XP. We cannot print them from either MS Access or MS
Word. To print the 1x3.5 label properly in MS Access on Windows 98 we needed
to define it as an Epson LQ-860. To print from MS Word on Windows 98 we used
the KX-P2123 driver.

Any information you can supply will be appreciated.

The supported paper sizes are defined in the printer GPD or PPD file located
in the windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 (assuming this is intel based
chipset). For most newer printers, the GPD and PPD files are provided by
the manufacturer.

With the KX-P2123 print driver provided on the XP CD, I can create the form
size 1" height by 3.5" width and this form size is available to the printer.

Is the driver you are using the one which ships on the CD?

My assumption is you are adding the form in Printers Folder / Server
Properties

I am using the driver for the KX-P2123 that ships with the Windows XP CD.

I will attempt the project again armed with the information you've given.
I'll report back for the benefit of others.

On a side note, posting to this forum has produced a hideous amount of spam.
