0x800ccc78 error on AT&T Yahoo (att.net) using Outlook2003

This is driving me CRAZY!!

I am unable to send mail from Outlook03 since last Thursday and of course,
AT&T is saying it's Microsoft's issue!

I get 0x800ccc78 error - 553 From: address not verified....but it has been
(I'm using my company e-mail addy to send/receive from).

I've got everything set up like they say it has to be....SMTP port #465
w/SSL checked. using smtp.att.yahoo.com for SMTP server. logging on using
secured password verification. using the @att.net in my user name.

From my research, if using Outlook03, I need to have SP3 installed.....I do.

I was on the phone with AT&% 2nd tier support yesterday for 57 minutes and
found out THEY were restricting port 25, which will affect/deny/control 3rd
party e-mails for spam purposes. They opened the port, I rebooted the modem
and that was supposed to clear up the problem....it didn't.

I found another suggestion on this site that I may have some stuck read
receipts and sure enough I did have one that I deleted but that didn't fix
the send issue.

I'm out of options....does anyone have any other suggestions??

It sounds like an SMTP authentication issue. Do you need to use SSL? Have you
tried sending without that checked?

Where did they tell you to use "Secure Password Authentication"? That is
*not* required on the Yahoo! servers, or any AT&T Internet Services mail
server.

If you were using port 465, then port 25 blocking is irrelevant.

How many accounts do you have? With 'at&t Yahoo! HSI', you are allowed to
create up to ten sub accounts, in addition to the Primary account. If you
log in to 'smtp.att.yahoo.com' with one account, but try to use any email
address associated with another account, you will get that "553 From:
address not verified" error.

The whole Yahoo! contract is now a pain; Yahoo! does not want to run a
proper 'smarthost', and you (and I) need a propter 'smarthost'. I gave up on
'smtp.att.yahoo.com' when they pulled that "address verification" stunt. I
now use 'mail.pacbell.net'. The more generic alias is,
'smtpauth.sbcglobal.net'. Either works with any of the nine legacy SBC
domains. I assume it will work with 'att.net', as long as you are an 'at&t
Yahoo! HSI' customer. The server requires that you check the "My server
requires authentication" box (or whatever its Outlook equivalent is). Do not
use "Log on using Secure Password Authentication"; that is only for servers
using some RSA thingy, which the ATTIS servers do not understand. UserID is
still your full email address.

AT&T Yahoo says I do. I've tried unchecking SMTP SSL & SMTP requires
authorization and I still get the same error saying check port & SSL settings

Norman, thank you for the response. I should have added that (trying
'smtpauth.sbcglobal.net' as the SMTP server) to the list of things I tried
(after reading it on an earlier post about the same/similar issue)....we are
an At&t Yahoo HSI customer.

I was just told in a customer support e-mail from att yesterday to log on
using secured password authentication, but I do not have it checked like I
thought I did on either the Internet email settings page or the Outgoing
Server tab under More Options. I've tried checking and un-checking so many
different things I don't know if I'm checked or not!!!

I am using port 465.

Any other advice?

It's what at&t customer service told me to use and I've seen it mentioned in
every other post about this issue. What are you thinking it should be?

For 'at&t Yahoo! HSI' customers using the Yahoo! SMTP message submission
servers, port 465 with SSL is absolutely required. Authentication is
accomplished using the full email address for the account. Plus the
password, of course.

I normally use my own mail server for outbound email. That server is
configured to use 'mail.pacbell.net', an alias for 'smtpauth.sbcglobal.net'.
I use port 587, but no secure protocol. Login is with my Primary
'pacbell.net' email address, the whole thing, along with the account
password. No security is required for that server.

I do, occasionally, play with 'smtp.att.yahoo.com'. I use port 465. For MS
Outlook Express I check the "My server requires authentication" box, but I
do not check the "Log in using Secure Password Authentication". Be sure that
you read the message you received carefully. Tech support *should* know
better than to use the "Secure Password Authentication" words.

I have no trouble using 'smtp.att.yahoo.com:465' w/SSL in MS Outlook
Express. I have no trouble using 'mail.pacbell.net:587' w/o any secure
protocols in my mail server.

SOLUTION FOUND!!!! It finally took 2 more Tier 2 reps to find the error and
it was soooooo simple!!!!

The e-mail verification process is case sensitive. No matter how you type
your e-mail address in to verify it (ours is (e-mail address removed)) it
will change it to all lower case. And it must also be all lower case in the
e-mail address under user information!!!! Mine was not....it was entered as
(e-mail address removed)) and would not verify since Yahoo has it as
(e-mail address removed)!!!!!! UUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Two full days
wasted on that????
