Go to tools>accounts>select your account>properties>advanced tab, change
port 25 to 465>apply/ok

Set up your gmail account according to the settings provided by them,
especially the port numbers!!
The links describe setup for Outlook Express, Windows mail setup is exactly
the same.
Check your settings as per:
