All,
I am observing 0x000000D1 errors related to serial.sys on a number of
like-built machines. A specific example is this, following an attempt
to create a subfolder to "My Documents".
My Documents had fatal error.
Stop:0X000000D1 (0X393A3A64, 0X00000042, 0X00000001, 0XF70B1EA8)
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Address F70B1EA8 base at F70B0000, datestamp 3e9cd9db - serial.sys
Beginning dump of physical memory.
Other occasions are at opening of a simple text file with Notepad, and
others more. The characteristics of the machines are:
Kontron MOPSlcd6 PC104Plus motherboard (Pentium 166 MHz MMX),
Sensoray model 311 PC104Plus frame grabber,
ConnectTech Xtreme 104 4-port serial port expansion (PC104),
Western Digital WD400 class hard drive,
Mitsumi floppy drive,
CD-ROM (IDE).
Via USB, a stack of 2 PC104 cards for a motion control system is
connected. The frame grabber is usually active when the crashes
occur. Serial communications are open to usually two or three
devices, among them the mouse. On one serial line, there may be a
fair amount of traffic but is not always when the crashes occur. The
non-mouse devices run with 9600,8,N,1 settings, called with the Win32
API in our own program(s) on the host side. The relatively busy device
works on 3 wires (RX, TX, SG) and ignores all others, although they
are properly connected on both sides (Maxxum chip in the device), the
other one is a true 3 wire device, and we have no loopbacks for the
unused lines implemented.
The operating system is Windows 2000 Professional SP4 with no further
updates applied. A network chip is present on the motherboard and
drivers are set up, but in most cases no actual network connection is
in place. Without any service pack, I observed a fairly large number
of these errors, and after installation of (SP3 or) SP4, this number
was reduced, from once or more per hour to order of one per day.
There is nothing activated in Verifier.exe.
I appreciate any and all suggestions as to where to look for possible
remedies.
Cheers,
Jochen
