zip via the command line

Windows XP has a graphical *.zip creation tool... can one use this
tool via the command line? If so, how would one go about doing it?

No. Search the net for "PKZIP.EXE" and "PKUNZIP.EXE" (PKWARE Inc.).

*shrugs* I was hoping I wouldn't have to use third-party tools...

That said, though, I'm currious - does Windows have any way to create
compressed archives via the command-line? *.cab, maybe?

I'll still probably use *.zip, but I am a litle currious, none-the-less.

Start > Run: CMD > makecab /?
I'll still probably use *.zip, but I am a litle currious, none-the-less.

Use 'extract.exe' (part of the "Support Tools" on your WinXP CD) in order
to uncompress .cab files.

Now, I'm sure you'll point out that I could just go to www.google.com
for recommendations, as well, but, for whatever reason, I think I put
more stock in recommendations that are given to me, personally, in
venues such as this, than I do in some generic product review.
