With the built in Windows XP compression? Can't.
With a third party application? Depends on the application.

I guess Windows built-in compression utility does not have this feature
(and thus is crippled). Give this a try:
http://www.7-zip.org/

It offers quite powerful compression and is absolutely free (under the
GPL). It has a powerful command line interface too.
