your products should be less expensive.

$229.99?? Why is the product so expensive? It cannot possibly cost your
company that much to produce each CD. Personally I think Microsoft is
already one of the biggest cash cows in this country we call the United
States. Is it really necessary to be more greedy and insist on taking
people's money? I need this product for one project at school, $230 wasted
for a one time use that costs over $100 to update if I ever had the urge to.
You people are absolutely ridiculous.

This is a newsgroup hosted by Microsoft, but all of us are just users like you
and we don't have control of prices or anything. I'm sorry you didn't get here
sooner, because for your purposes you should consider downloading the free - -
yes, free! - - trial of Office 2003. See
http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/prodinfo/trial.mspx. There is also
special pricing for Students and Teachers (http://tinyurl.com/5lbb6) and if your
school has a book store you can get a really big price break.

Now if you want to campaign for lower costs, run right over to Adobe and have a
chat with them about the cost of Photoshop at $649, or their suite of products
at $1229 . <G>

I see your point, and thank you for the link, I didn't know that the free
download still existed. There's only one problem; the link didn't work, I
tried copying and pasting also. Thanks for trying though.

The links work from here. Maybe there was a server problem. Give them another
try. It's worth it to try. If that doesn't work, go to
http://www.microsoft.com/ and do a search on Office Professional Edition 2003
Trial Software. The first hit in the list will be the page you want.

Meredith,

I'll admit that I've done more than my fair share of griping at
Microsoft, their business practices, and the fortune they have
amassed. Who hasn't?

But less attention is paid to how much Bill Gates is giving away...

http://www.nptimes.com/Jan00/janfro1.html

And particularly to education ...

All that might not take away much of the sticker shock you
experienced. But having met and talked with Microsoft personnel
recently, I learned that there are pitched battles that go in inside
the company. They fight over what features go into products, what goes
out, what stays, and how they are priced. You have allies inside
Microsoft; sometimes they win, sometimes they lose, sometimes they
settle.

Best of luck,
Tony
