I wanted to restore my computer XPpro Sp2 to an earlier state and I keep
getting the message " Your computer cannot be restored to..." I have
tried 4 dates and allways the same reply.

I haven't had this problem before so any help in restoring to an earlier
date would be most appreciated.

See if this article helps.
"How to troubleshoot the System Restore tool in Windows XP"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302796/EN-US/

If this doesn't help, turn the System Restore tool off and on again.
This will clear all the restore points, however, the corresponding
files may have been corrupted anyway.

System Restore is useful, but when it doesn't work there's really
nothing to be done except to disable it and then enable it again. Do
this from the System applet's System Restore tab in Control Panel.

If you'd like help on the root problem that is causing you to want to
use System Restore, post back with pertinent details.

Thank you for your input I now have a better insight, even though I
can't restore to an earlier date.

Thank you for your time.

The problem I have is editing video. All was running fine then I
installed windows critical updates 886185,834707,873339,885835 and
885836 and a trial version of Sorensen Squeeze. After which Pinnacle
the video editing software freezes when I try to edit useually after a
miniute and a half.

This prompted me to uninstall soresen and the updates which didn't clear
the problem which is why I wanted to do a restore.

Ah well there you have it.

Yes, I see. Well, you won't be able to do anything about using System
Restore since it isn't working right and that's a shame because this is
just the sort of instance where it would have been helpful. You
probably should uninstall Pinnacle, too. Maybe there is a user forum
for the Pinnacle program you're using? I'm sorry that I don't have any
expertise with video editing programs but perhaps someone else reading
the group will.

Good luck,

Malke

Thank you all...booting into safe mode and carrying out a restore from
there gave me what I wanted.
