Whenever I browse to a folder containing an avi file
encoded using the xvid codec (NB I have tried all
available xvid codecs stable/unstable and Tsunami, Nimo
etc.. codec packs)

I receive the following error msg
Application popup: Explorer.EXE - Application Error : The
instruction at "0x06675542" referenced memory
at "0x04c3f000". The memory could not be "written"

I have formatted twice now, tried on a clean build with
all available codecs for xvid. Tried updating windows to
SP1 and that doesn't work. I have searched technet and
support.microsoft.com but found nothing. I have also
searched the web extensively and found many other people
with an identical problem but no one has a solution.

Please does anyone have any suggestions or a fix.

Must be a new codec? I've used DivX for .avi ( which is
xvid backwards incidentally ). You can find it in search.
If it doesn't work uninstall it.
