Has anyone ever seen xswsu.exe in the start-up group in msconfig? Can anyone tell me what this executable does as it sits at C:\Windows\System32?

TIA

no hits on google is very surprising... i would bet on a randomly named
virus or worm executable.

I was also surprized by a lack of Google hits

I immediately thought about a virus but I came up with no hits at any of the antivirus sites. I also ran a virus scan making certain the virus definitions were current with nothing found.

This is why I have turned here, hoping that someone knows what it is and can enlighten me.

I know that this is an old thread... but, just recently I ran into this same program xswsu.exe on a DELL laptop.

It was found in c:\windows\system32

Renaming the file caused the system to not boot normally... It would boot into safe mode without issue... but, with the file renamed I just got a black screen and no HDD function.

Since this is a fairly rare file (no google hits to speak of) I am going to keep everyone posted on my findings.

BTW...

Nice site / forum here. :)
