Is there an XP equivalent to Desktop Architect?
I would particularly like to get rid of the boring old Startup and Shutdown
screens but DA does not seem to work for that as there appear to be no
'logos' or 'logow' files.
With w98 there were lots of witty screens to download.

I'm not familiar with Desktop Architect, however, MS XP allows for
modification of the boot splash screen by applying the following switch
at startup:

/BOOTLOGO
Use this switch to have Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 display an
installable splash screen instead of the standard splash screen. First,
create a 16-color (any 16 colors) 640x480 bitmap and save it in the
Windows directory with the name Boot.bmp. Then add "/bootlogo
/noguiboot" to the boot.ini selection.

For all of us Luddites out there, here's the instructions for doing the
same thing to Win2k...including a neat little utility for randomizing
the boot splash.
