After hours of watching the download icon (at 26+ megs) it stopped and
disappeared with no further activity. I have waited several hours now and
still no activity or installation process. Looking at XP version still just
shows XP HOME. I lost sp1 in a recent crash. There is not any additional
space used up on my hard drive and the automatic update icon now shows 0%
downloaded. Anyone else experience this?

I believe you need several hundred megs of HD space for SP2. If you also
need SP1, which is an optional part of SP2, it might even be larger.
That may explain why the update is stalled. I would clean up the harddisk
- burn anything you need to a CD or DVD until SP2 installs. Then clean up
the disk again and put back your other stuff.

Go to Windows Update and see if you are now running the new version of it.
That is what happened to me. It updated WU first, then the next day it
offered the actual SP2 update, even though the updater said it was the SP2
update both times.
