I believe I was able to keep some annoying programs from
loading at startup in Windows 98 using MSConfig... Well
I have a few annoying programs loading up in XP on Startup
and I'd like to be able to turn them off. Does XP have
something like that? If not, how can I control what gets
launched at startup?

Thanks

With msconfig 8-)

Start

Thanks.

I swear I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks for not
laughing too hard.

First thing to do is to check in the program options for a way to turn
off it loading at startup.

In most cases, with "well-mannered" applications, it's usually as
simple as opening the undesired program and deselecting the option to
"display icon in the system tray" or to "start when Windows starts."

Additionally, Look in the C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up and C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up folders, and in the
system registry, primarily in the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.

Type "msconfig" on the Start/Run line.

Aside from other comments, Start - Run - MSConfig
which looks just about as in earlier systems
