Cousin Stanley

I've been using the Python-based XPN news client
graciously provided by Antonio "Nemesis" Caputo
for a long time now and use it daily ....

http://xpn.altervista.org/index-en.html

Last Friday while trying to break up a dog fight
among our hounds here at home I sustained a fairly
severe injury to my right wrist which made using
the mouse for navigation and scrolling through
news articles very painful ....

Scolling down through a news article using the spacebar
without changing focus from the headers pane to the articles pane
is a feature that has been included in every news client that I
have ever used ....

However, I've never used one that also included the capability
to scroll back up in the same convenient manner without changing
focus which usually requires an extra mouse click to get there
and then another to get back ....

Wishing to avoid the extra mouse clicks, I emailed Antonio
and asked if this might be implemented in XPN without too much hassle ....

He replied with some very specific suggestions and I managed
to implement the desired scroll up feature in the XPN Python code
in only a few minutes ....

Now in my local version of XPN I can scroll down through an article
with the spacebar and scroll back up using Ctrl-Spacebar ....

Adding a feature such as this to any other news client
that I have ever used would probably be much more difficult
and perhaps impossible without the source code available ....

Someone please remind me NOT to forget to nominate Python
when PL nominations roll around again ....

Although I've already sent my thanks to Antonio via private email,
I wanted to do so again in a public forum to thank him for providing
a very nice open source news client and for guiding me in implementing
a feature that will be very useful to me especially when I need it
the most ....

Thanks, Antonio ....
