XPe boot from read-only CF

Hello, All!

We've got a concept problem trying to meet our customer requirements to XPe
image. The image needs to be run from read-only CF card. There will be no
write-able storage on the hardware.

Has anybody run into similar problems and found a solution?

Only thought I got was to run the image from CF card to ramdisk
(boot.ini\ramdisk boot). As far as I understand, then there have to be at
least twice more RAM than the image size. Is it true?

Any suggestion would be very much appreciated.

That's a fairly standard feature for XP embedded deployments on CF. The
term you need to learn more about specific to XP Embedded is "EWF" which
stands for Enhanced Write Filter. There are several articles on the MS
website going into more detail. Email me if you have questions (remove the
