i have lost the programmes on the start list also
accessories etc and internet explorer they are still
there as i can find them in programme files and also in
the add/remove list in control panel can somebody please
tell me what i have done thanks

Have you tried a system restore?

Rt. click [Start] > [Properties] > [Customize] > [Advanced] >
[Enable dragging and dropping]
