I purchaced a Compaq several years ago with ME.
I got the XP upgrade disk.
Since then I have reformatted the hard drive to NFTS, no
partitions.
Now comes a virus and a need to do a clean install.
However I am only able to "over-write". This leaves a
huge mine-field of "empty" folders, programs that don't
run , and so on.
During setup I am asked for a Windows disk to prove I
qualify for the upgrade, the recovery disk is useless, as
ME was FAT32 and no longer exists on my drive.
How can I do a clean install?

Hi

If you have purchased an Upgrade XP CD you will need a CD from a previous version of Windows for proof of qualification. A 'recovery' disk doesn't count. Without a previous version CD of Windows you won't be able to install XP - sorry. If you have a Win 95 CD - try that.
