XP worm virus and formatting

My copy of XP has some sort of worm on it that is forcing it to shut down. I
have a recovery disk and have reinstalled windows many times but the same
thing happens again. I can't get rid of the problem, or even try and fix it.

Its possible that the copy i have (on the recovery disk) is corrupted but
apart from buy a new HD what can i do?

XP won't let me format the HD to >try< and get a fresh install. Apart from
the recovery disk I have no copy of XP (the copy of xp and other software on
the disk is from the pc manufactuer and is a full legal copy. The pc is only
just over a year old)

It appears the recovery disk is just repairing the old install which just
isn't working.

I'm usually quite good at fixing problems but have run out of ideas on this!!

When i had it running (just) i tried to get all the SP2 updates but the
windows site just says 'looking for updates' for ever and dosn't actualldo
anything.

With the retail copy of xp,one would need to boot to cd,recovery,press enter
key for password,then at cmd screen type:DiskPart In DiskPart delete the
partition,create one,then press Esc key,back in cmd,type:FORMAT C: /FS:ntfs
After type:EXIT XP would reinstall auto.I think if you set to boot to youre
recovery cd in the BIOS (boot device priority),you can get into recovery.If
not
able to,find out the hd mfg,go to thier site,they should have a utility
that boot in
DOS that will zero out a drive and/or format it clean.

The recovery cd works no problem. But when i get (back) into windows after a
few mins XP shuts itself down.

So either (probable casue)

1) the worm/virus survives the reinstall
2) my xp copy is corrupted.

1 seems unlikely becasue this happened before i reinstalled anything.

My question is if xp is corrupted do i need to buy a new copy? anbd how
would i destroy all the data - format the entire disk - to make sure the worm
or virus never comes back?

When windows shuts down it does so through RPC error. Now i know how to stop
this thorugh services, but there is little point because XP stops
functioning. It dosn't freeze but won't let me open any windows or anything
like that.

Problem is even after the reinstall i'm not getting enough time to install
anti virus anti worm software. It seems to affect IE first which prevents me
getting on the internet. The first sign of probs is IE stops loading web
pages.

Today it lasted about 90 mins bebore i ran into problems again.

Dear Most Vulgar Person,

Don't you know how to set your Clock / Time zone???

Goodbye. This post is history for me.

Do this:

1) Get the serial number of your XP by using:
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml
2) Borrow a XP CD from your friend or buy a copy from pirates for $10. You don't
need serial because you have got it from (1) above;
3) Figureout whether your copy of XP is OEM or Retail or VLK
4) Now copy the entire CD (which you bought for $10) to your hard drive and look
for the file: d:\i386\settup.ini on the CD;
5) You now need to edit this file to match yours as follows:
Pid=51882OEM
Pid=51882270 (for VLK)
Pid=51882335 (for Retail)
6)Copy the edited file to wherever you copied the entire CD on your hard drive
puting this file in \i386\
7) Create a bootable CD using NERO 6 and copy the entire CD contents from hard
drive to the CD (you may need further instructions on this as with M$ everything
is different)
8) Fresh Install from this new CD using your own serial;

Effectively you have now fooled the PC to tke in your own version of OS!!!

Hope this helps.
