Has anyone applied KB927891? I'm told this fix is not a publicly released
fix. Yet.
Our reason for applying this patch is that we’re seeing problems with XP SP2
workstation performance degradation (svchost.exe owned by system captures
memory (spikes and does not release)) when our WSUS checks for updates,
specifically updates pertaining to Microsoft Office products. Any insight is
appreciated.

That’s the patch Microsoft had us run but it did nothing to resolve the issue
either with the svchost and memory or the slowness. This patch is listed in
the description to fix the issue with svchost and cpu utilization but they
try to subscribe it to fix everything. In the end in testing we found relief
from the high svchost by stopping the Automatic Update Service. Start it
again and then stop it and disable it.

Actually for us, applying KB927891 seems to have corrected the mem issues with
svchost.exe mem hogging. We've applied this fix to numerous XP SP2 Pro
machines and everything has settled down. It worked for us.
