When I type several hyphens, or equal signs or astericks, and then press enter to move to the next line, the hyphen (or = sign or asterick) will fill in with hyphens to create a full line to the end - which is not what I wanted. I simply wanted a few hyphens to separate lines of type. This has suddenly developed - previously it functioned correctly. I presume I must have hit something to create a macro of some kind. Hiow to I get back to having only the number of hyphens I type? Thanks for any help.

Press the spacebar before enter.

That is the default behaviour of Word, turn off some Autocorrect settings.

Tools, Autocorrect Options, "Autoformat as you type" tab. Uncheck under
Replace as you type: Hyphens with dash.
