Can someone help on this situation. My daughter's pc was sent to gateway for
repair, pc was not loading properly and the soundcard was dead. They removed
the XP home ed. from the pc. I have reloaded the XP home ed. and now the pc
will not load in normal mode, the message reads "Atidvag.dll driver error. I
figure that the video drivers need to be updated or something. XP will only
load in the safe mode and I cannot download the drivers in this state.

Is it possible to download the drivers onto floppy from another pc and load
onto the problem pc.

Yes this is possible, XP pro has a way of booting into safe mode and still
being able to connect to the internet via DSL or Cable, Unfortunatly XP Home
does not have this feature.

you could also try logging into safe mode, removing the graphics card from
device manager and then restarting in normal mode. This should hopefully let
you back into windows to connect and download the drivers.

Where do I find this? Is this located under Display Adapters: what is listed
here is ATI Radeon VE DDR or under Sound, Video & Game Controllers: l isted
here is Legacy Video Capture Devices. I do not want to remove the wrong item.

Thanks,
Sheila

You can download SP2 on another PC, burn it to a CD and take that to the
computer with a problem and then, in safe mode on that computer, copy it to
your desktop, double click on it and install it, yes.

I didn't think SP2 could be installed in safe mode(?)

I installed it just yesterday on a machine with a CPU dying in order to
straighten out it's Windows (easier on the CPU than a repair install) in
safe mode. Seemed to go fine. Interestingly, I was attempting to install it
on a laptop during the week when the mains power went out and the laptop
went to batteries. It came up and said it couldn't be installed while
running on batteries. First I knew about that one! Not a bad idea, though.
