XP won't install on my partition

I am upgrading my daughter's computer from XP Home to XP Pro - When I do the
install it won't let me put it on the 12GB of space all of her file are on -
it calls it the F: drive. So I formatted the rest of the space (3GB) and
installed XP Pro on that - no problems. The problem comes when I then go to
Disk Management and I can see the space that the 12 GB is taking, but it
isn't assigned a drive letter and I can't select the properties option (it
is greyed out). How can I get that space and her files back?
Please help me.

Please provide more information:

1. Did you purchase a "Retail Upgrade Version" of XP Pro?
2. If you did, did you select the default "Upgrade" setup option?

Sounds like you acquired an "OEM version" which has no
upgrade option. You need to perform a "clean install".
If you had purchase a "Full Retail Version" then you
should have selected the default "Upgrade" option and
not "New Installation" option.

| I purchased the full version of XP Pro with Service Pack 2
| I installed a new copy.

THanks...I'll read the clean install and give it a try.
I appreciate your quick responses.
