I have recently bought a hp laptop computer with xp home
edition with service pack 1 on it. I also bought a
microsoft wireless -g notebook kit (mn-820). I was
successful in installing the base station to my home
computer (also running xp home edition with service pack
1). When I install the wireless adapter in the notebook
it recognizes the new hardware. The power light is on and
the wireless light is blinking slowly which means it's
trying to connect with the base station. In the broadband
network utility network there is no ip address showing,
when I try to ping running the run - cmd - ipconfig there
is no ip address, and it states that the media is
diconnected. The wireless connection properties will say
that it is connected with good signal strength. The
wireless status will say "One or more wireless networks
available" when I try to connect, it will not connect,
but it will continue to say "One or more wireless
networks available". I also had a friend who is in the
field of networking and installing servers for a local
company. I let him look at my problem and for 8 hours he
was unsuccessful in resolving my problem. He said he had
seen nothing like this before and believes this is an xp
issue. Reason being that he has an hp laptop running
windows 2000, he installed the software from my notebook
kit and plugged in the wireless adapter into his computer
and it connected to my base station in no time flat
without a hitch. I have talked with microsoft people and
they were not able to help me, the said they have a team
working on my problem now. I hope that this problem will
be resolved soon.
