I'm running XP pro with all service packs and updates on
a Toshiba Tecra S1.
I booted up my machine one night (less than an hour after
I was previously using it) and it took forever to boot.
Firstly, it was at the scrolling progress bar for windows
xp bootup for at least 5 minutes. Then, once it got past
that, it loaded the standard blue background screen you
normally get when you are prompted to enter your
credentials for that machine. The only problem was, the
logon prompt never showed. I also noticed that the mouse
pointer moved, but clicking did nothing. Meanwhile, the
harddrive activity light was off at this point (during
the earlier portion of the boot up it was on like crazy).
Any ideas? I'm thinking either a system file is corrupt
or that I have a bad sector where a system file lives. I
keep tight watch on programs I install so it's not likely
a virus or other conflict is happening. PLEASE HELP... I
AM ABOUT TO RUN OVER MY LAPTOP IF I DON'T FIX THIS
SOON!
.
thanks!
